How to Cook Brussels Sprouts

Last Updated on October 28, 2024 by Michelle

Brussels sprout recipes… you need these. Because these amazing, beautifully green veggies have gotten a bad rap for way too long. So I am sharing some of my favorite ways to cook Brussels sprouts today. These wonderful vegetables may soon be one of your favorites. Seriously.

How to prepare Brussels Sprouts

For each of the 3 ways described here for cooking Brussels Sprouts, you want to start by preparing the sprouts. That simply entails rinsing them then cutting off the botom end of each and slicing them each in half or quarters, longways.

Garlic Pepper Brussels Sprouts

Heat cast iron skillet with bacon grease (or lard or avocado oil). Toss in prepared Brussels sprouts and coat them lightly with garlic pepper. This is my all-time favorite garlic pepper and it’s great for all meat marinades too. Turn Brussels sprout frequently with wooden spatula until all sides are lightly browned.

Cheesy Maple Brussels Sprouts

Heat cast iron skillet with bacon grease (or avocado oil). Toss in prepared Brussels sprouts and turn frequently with wooden spatula until all sides are lightly browned. Drizzle on 1-2 TB maple syrup, toss to coat, and shake on 1-2 TB nutritional yeast (or parmesan cheese, but go here to see why I swapped out one for the other in my kitchen).

I order my avocado oil and nutritional yeast from Azure Standard. Go here to see if they deliver in your area.

Baked Brussels Sprouts & Bacon

Cook bacon in baking stone pan. Remove cooked bacon and break into small pieces. Fill pan with prepared Brussel sprouts and toss with broken bacon pieces. Cook for 20 minutes at 350.
