Blueberry Matcha Smoothie

Last Updated on June 20, 2024 by Michelle

I made my first ever smoothie that included matcha today. And man-oh-man is this good.

I’ve been a matcha fan for a long time now. Read why, and details about four other favorite nutritious drinks here: 5 Healthy Drinks

Can you add matcha to a smoothie?

Yes! Matcha is a fantastic addition to a smoothie. Especially because it has L-theanine… let me explain…

One component of matcha (L-theanine) alters the effects of its caffeine, giving you the alertness but not the crash that comes with caffeine.

Studies have also found that L-theanine may encourage relaxation and decrease stress. Pretty cool, right? A boost of caffeine and alertness with zero jitteriness or crash. Yes, please.

Even better if it’s in a delicious nutrient-and-protein-packed smoothie, yes?

Putting matcha in smoothies

While I made this smoothie recipe to go perfectly with my new portable blender, you can of course double or triple it and use any blender you’d like.

And hop over to instagram if you’d like to see this smoothie in the works– Watch this reel for How to Make a Blueberry Matcha Smoothie & follow over on ig for lots more real-food goodness while you’re there.

Blueberry Matcha Smoothie

Blueberry Matcha Smoothie Ingredients

1/2 c milk

1/2 cup frozen blueberries

1/2 frozen banana, sliced

2 oz. brewed matcha (save 10% w code SOULYRESTED)

1 tsp chia seeds

1/4 tsp cinnamon

pinch of fresh ginger, ground

pinch of salt (This is the only salt I use. Code SOULYRESTED saves 15%!)

Blueberry Matcha Smoothie Directions

To brew the matcha, add 1/2 tsp of this ceremonial grade matcha to 2 oz boiling water and mix well. (True matcha connoisseurs use a wooden whisk. I just use my immersion blender in a pitcher or xl mug.)

Add all ingredients to the portable blender cup and screw blender lid on tightly.

Press power button two times and invert cup while blending. Repeat if needed. (This blender will automatically shut off at 45 seconds, but you can run it as many times as you would like.)

Remove blender lid, place second lid on, and enjoy!

Notes about blueberry green tea smoothies

  • Feel free to use almond milk or other alternatives.
  • Add 1 TB maple syrup if you’d like the smoothie to be sweeter.
  • Feel free to switch up the fruit you use. All your favorites would be delicious.
  • Feel free to double, triple, or quadruple the recipe if you’re using a full-size blender. This is my favorite blender ever, which includes a vacuum seal to maximize your nutrients.
