Why We Use Loose Leaf Tea
If you haven’t made the switch from bags to loose leaf tea, here are 7 Ways to Compare Loose Leaf vs. Tea Bags.
To sum it up, loose leaf is a healthier, more delicious choice.
More details about some great teas
These are the teas I buy in bulk (seriously).
- This Assam tea is a full-bodied black tea, perfect for starting off the day. Mix it about 2 to 1 with this wonderful Nilgiri tea and you have an organic loose leaf cup of tea that is a pumped up, more delicious, totally organic version of this infamous tea.
- This Juicy Peach tea, Butterscotch tea, Black Caramel tea, or this Mango Tango tea, with an added tablespoon of maple syrup, makes any morning just about perfect.
- This Blueberry Bliss tea is my favorite way to sip dessert. In fact, if someone told me I had to only have one kind of tea for the rest of my life, this one might be the one I’d have to choose.
- This Island Breeze is a delicious rooibos tea that is naturally sweet and tropical tasting. It’s great hot or cold.
- Orange Blossom Oolong is amazing (do be careful to brew it in slightly cooler water–170 degrees–or it will taste bitter) sweetened with lilac sugar (learn how to make that here), lilac syrup, or tupelo honey.
- This Sugarmakers Not Coffee Tea is so rich & deliciously bold you won’t believe it has no caffeine!

And Have You Met Matcha?
Green tea leaves are ground up into a fine powder for matcha, which can be easily dissolved into a warm or cold drink.
Because farmers grow matcha differently than other green teas, it has extra high amounts of chlorophyll & antioxidants–as much as 137x as much as typical green tea! (source)
Matcha may promote heart health, enhance brain function (source), and prevent cancer (source), while also helping with weight loss (source).
One study even showed that consuming 2 grams (1 tsp) of matcha daily for 2 months helped improve brain function in the elderly (source).
Amazingly, matcha also contains L-theanine, which alters the effects of caffeine, giving you the alertness but not the crash that comes with caffeine. Studies have also found that L-theanine may encourage relaxation and decrease stress.
I love adding matcha to many different drinks, but here’s a recipe for Matcha Lemonade.
Matcha Lemonade
1 tsp matcha (this is my favorite matcha)
2 cups water
2 tsp fresh lemon juice
1 tbsp maple syrup or honey (optional)
Stir well (I like to use a nice frother to get the job done beautifully), add ice, and enjoy.
Use code SOULYRESTED and save 10% on your matcha and this frother.
A Few Iced Tea Recipes We Love
I really love it when I make a delicious drink with ZERO sugar. The recipe below is as delicious as my favorite Vitamin Water, but it’s made with purely 100% organic teas and stevia. If you want to get four times as much tea for only twice the price, snag the 1-pound bag.
And try the White Mimosa, flavored with honey, (that recipe is below too) for a delicious summer treat. Again, go for the 1-pound bag for the best savings.

My Favorite Botanicals
A botanical is a plant–or part of a plant–that is valued for its medicinal or therapeutic properties
I love to forage botanicals, but don’t always have the time to do so when certain ones are in bloom, so I was elated when my favorite tea company started a whole line of botanicals! No foraging or preserving required, but all the medicinal benefits are waiting for me, inside each bag.
My top picks for functional botanicals I love adding to my teas:
- Red Clover– isoflavones such as biochanin A, genistein, and daidzein give red clover an anti-inflammatory effect. It’s also effective at easing menopause symptoms and helping prevent osteoporosis
- Dandelion Leaves are said to aid in digestion and stimulate our immune system
- Raspberry Leaves are believed to help fight common illnesses, like the cold or flu
A few of my favorite tea blends I love to make with botanicals:
- Elderflower Tea–recipe is right here.
- Raspberry Leaf Tea with Elderberries–recipe is right here.
