Best Products and Food for Cats

“I am not a cat person. I’m a dog person.”

When I first acquiesced to bringing home a few barn cats (my daughters wore me down), I was heard saying this mantra often.

Then I realized, while they will always be working animals on our little farm–deterring rodents from eating our animal feed and devouring my gardens, they’re pretty great companions too.

So I started researching the best products and food for these adorable farm workers. They still sleep in the barn, but they’re some of my loyal companions around here too, and we make sure to take good care of our favorite felines.

Best Products & Food for Cats

Since I want our barn cats to eagerly fill their bellies on those pesky rodents that they’re here to control, I don’t leave kibble out continually for them. But I do what the kibble they get to be the best I can get them, within a reasonable budget. It took me a long time of searching to find one that is truly great feline food yet doesn’t break the bank. (High-quality cat food can be crazy expensive!)

Why feed barn cats dried goat’s milk?

It seemed strange to me when I heard this suggestion, but it turns our dry goat’s milk is good for cats and (of course) they LOVE it. I start shaking a little on the kitten’s food a few weeks before they move to new homes. New owners can continue this is they want, to help kittens who have weaned from momma stay happy and healthy.
