In reply to <a href="https://soulyrested.com/make-rolled-oats/comment-page-4/#comment-60030">Mary</a>.

Just like fresh milled flour, flaked groats will loose nutrients over time, but storing them well means they're still much more nutritious, even a month old, than commercial oats. And you can use them any way you would use commercial oats (oatmeal raisin cookies, granola, oatmeal bars, you name it). Store them up to 3 months in an airtight container in cool, dark, dry area or freeze them for longer. Hope that helps!

How do you store flaked oat groats and do they lose their nutrient value soon after being flaked. Do you have other recipes besides oatmeal that one can use flaked oat groats?

Home-made oat flakes are addictive! They are so much more a wonderful food than the boxed awful stuff in the grocery store. It only takes about 7 minutes to cook home-made flakes of oat - longer for wheat - I add a banana and let it cook with the flakes. It releases its own sweetness. If you live in a dry climate, that advice of adding a teaspoon of water to wheat kernels and let it sit in a jar overnight will help the flakes flatten better. But make sure the wheat kernels are finally dry when you start the flaker machine. It is not necessary with oat kernels. So much more nutrition in fresh flakes.
