oh that's very odd! My 200 shoots out very fine flour (and I sometimes mill rye as well). I do keep my set as low as it will go (at 0). Have you tried that?

I'm 79 and used to mill with the older Magic Mill (an impact mill). The flour was very fine. I never sifted. Last year I started baking sourdough and purchased a Mockmill 100.
The flour produced seems coarser, especially if I use a small amount of rye. I have it set almost to the 1. I've cleaned it with rice but still feel like the bread is so much coarser. Any thoughts?

Hi Mike, I'm not understanding? While they are often on backorder and shipping can be delayed, it looks like all models are available now and should ship 1-2 business days after you order?

A stone mill allows for greater variety in texture output. So with a stone mill you'll be able to mill fine flour all the way through cracked grains. You are correct that impact mills are great at making fine flour, but don't offer many other texture options. My recommendation for you would probably be the Mockmill 100 (https://soulyrested.com/mockmill/). It's budget friendly, mills a large variety of grains and textures, and is on-demand style which is my preference. The only difference in the mockmill 100 and the mockmill Lino 100 is the look and the price. The model is the same inside.

I need to mill buckwheat, millet, amaranth, and quinoa into a fine flour. I have used an impact mill in the past, but it didn't allow me to mill buckwheat and millet large enough to make hot cereal. It came out too fine even on the "largest" milling option. My budget is limited so purchasing one mill is my only option at this point. What would you suggest I get so I can get a nice fine flour and a coarser "hot cereal" grind? I'm willing to send flour through a few times to get a fine grind, if that helps. Thank you for your informational article and suggestion.

Yes! I have (& there is a section in Fresh Flour University all about this). Best advice I give: Weigh your sprouted wheat berries after dehydrating them and make sure your final weight is close to when you started. That will help you verify you've gotten all the moisture out, so your grain mill won't be negatively impacted by moist berries.

Do you ever sprout your grain? If so, do you have any input from your experience? I have had a classic Nutrimill for 20 years and the time is coming for replacing. I tend to sprout 2-3 batches of 12 cups each at a time. Sprouted grain can be ground immediately or frozen to grind later. Any thoughts?

Sadly, most grain mill producers are having a really hard time keeping mills in stock. (Also, yay that the nation is tuning into how important this is!) But I promise you will NOT regret the wait... it's a great mill!

Thanks for this help on mill comparisons!
I am heavily leaning towards a mock mill but disappointed that it could be while to they are back in stock.
