I get clean-er duck eggs when their water source is no where near where they lay. If I get the first egg, out of the possible 3, it’s generally clean. If the other 2 come through and stomp all over it, then it will be filthy.

We have 2 call ducks and one khaki and the khaki is laying almost every day and it’s winter now (in the 30’s and 40’s in central Ca at night). I love the eggs and use them to make sourdough discard pancakes. They are incredible. The ducks are in an extra large cage (it has a door we can walk in) and have their own pool and I am shocked they still float when it’s so cold. The call duck is laying as well but she is not consistent. They are taking turns sitting on the eggs and we feel so bad stealing them.

In reply to PAT F. Yes! Our ducks LOVE their kiddie pool. I refill it for them every morning (and empty it every night... don't want a big pool of drinking water attracting potential predators). It's one of their favorite spots.

In reply to Joan Nordberg. Give them their own pool! We had ducks as pets when we were kids.... dad put a kiddy pool in the yard just for them. Float some romaine lettuce in there to get them accustomed to going to their own pool.
